Researchers from the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) at the University of Surrey report that they have created two machine learning models that are both able to accurately predict the severity of three common symptoms faced by cancer patients – depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance. All of these symptoms severely reduce the patients’ ability to function on a daily basis as well as their overall quality of life. These types of models can help identify patients at high risk for such symptoms, and improve interventions. The results were published in the journal PLOS ONE.
